Been traveling all over the place since my retirement at the end of last year. Did the WFW in June, and went out one other time. Finally, August rolled around and so did the annual Salmon junket with my sons and a couple of their buddies, out of Manistee , yesterday (8/25). Shown is our haul. Two Cohos, and the rest are Kings. We were out for eight hours.

When we cleared the harbor, we saw emergency flashers on the south breakwater. We found out why on the way back. There was what looked to be a 26-30 ft. boat up on the rocks of the sourth breakwater. He apparently thought that once he cleared the seawall at the mouth of the Manistee River, he was on open lake, and headed southwest at speed - straight into the jetty. It was 5:00 in the morning, and dark. Don't know what he was navigating on. Two guys in the hospital.

We had the Cohos for supper last night, at the campground. In the pic, number one son, Fred, on the left, and number two son, Mike, on the right. Their buddy, Ken, in the middle. I'm the short, fat one.

If you only get to go once and do that good Fred, seems you might have enough fish left until next time you go. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

True, Dan. But we had to split the meat six ways. Still plenty of eating until next trip. We're still cooking up salmon from last year.

Way to go Fred - glad to see you're having too much time to fish. Didn't know such a thing existed Laughing You should join us on the west side for some more fun the weekend after labor day...call for details if interested. Cool Wink

Nice rack of fish there Fred. Well done. Seen pics of the boat that hit the wall, such a shame. Was up to Frankfort a week ago and way many more boats out there than fish caught, looked to be well over 200 boats off the bank that Saturday morning. Water temps were up and the break was down deep. Will head back up the weekend after the holiday to give it another go.

Thanks, Jeff. Sure would like to, but the wife is taking me to Alaska that week. About the closest I'll get to fishing is maybe a good Alaska Salmon dinner on one of the shore excursions. That's the way the whole summer has gone. My boat is sitting in a slip at Eagle Bay with the original summer's fillup still in the tank.

Cheer up Fred. That means your boat is worth around $300.00 more in (Gas Futures) just sitting there over the summer. Hell, you can't get that kind of return in regular stocks. Rolling Eyes Mad

Never thought of that, Dan. Maybe I should set up shop on the commodities spot market. I'd make a killing on just that one tank. Very Happy

A barrel of oil just went up to $97.00 over night. Now cost me a little over $80.00 for diesel both ways to fish on the PM. not counting the boat gas. If it was just about the meat, Krogers Fresh Atlantic Salmon is starting to look better and better. Mad

But we all know it isn't just about the meat, don't we? That's what non-hunters and fishers don't understand, I guess.

Nice job on the salmon, Fred. Looks like you guys had a great time.

That's true. But it's getting very close to one of the first things one does think about. And in some instances the second, like your gas price comment after your perch trip Thursday. Cool Wink When the price of gas makes me choose between a fishing trip and money for the consumers bill, it becomes very much about the price of gas and the mood of it all that fallows. Cool Wink
